If you’re a rural micro business based in Northern Ireland, now could be the perfect time to invest in new CNC machinery.

The Rural Business Development Grant Scheme 2026/27, delivered by local councils on behalf of the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA), is now open for applications. The scheme is designed to help eligible rural businesses recover, grow and diversify through investment in new capital equipment.

Grants of up to £7,500 Available

Eligible businesses may be be able to receive up to 50% grant funding, with grants available from £500 to £7,500 for projects costing up to £30,000.

The scheme supports a range of eligible capital purchases, including new machinery, making it an excellent opportunity for businesses looking to improve productivity, increase manufacturing capacity or bring more production in-house with a CNC router.

Who Can Apply?

The Rural Business Development Grant Scheme is intended for eligible rural micro businesses across Northern Ireland.

To apply, your business will generally need to:

  • Employ fewer than 10 people.
  • Be actively trading.
  • Be based in an eligible rural area.
  • Meet the eligibility criteria set by your local council and DAERA.

Applications Are Now Open

Applications are now open, with the current funding round closing at 12 noon on Thursday 30th July 2026.

As part of the application process, applicants are required to attend one of the online information workshops organised by their local council before submitting an application.
