Where it all started
What started as a small carbon fibre workshop has grown into a globally recognised CNC machinery brand, trusted by manufacturers, engineers and educators across the UK and beyond.
We’ve always been hands-on, practical and focused on doing things properly, from the first machine we built to the hundreds we supply today.
Built from engineering, not just assembled
Our story started in 2005, when founder Mark Hepworth launched Fibrecomp, producing high-performance carbon fibre components for race teams and industry.
As the business grew, so did the need for better machinery. After buying a CNC router that didn’t meet expectations, we decided to design and build our own.
The result? A stronger, better-performing machine and the beginning of something much bigger.
By 2008, demand for our machines had taken over the original business. Fibrecomp was sold and Exel CNC was born.
Designed, developed and refined over time
From those early days, we focused on building CNC routers that were robust, precise and genuinely built to last.
We developed a range of machines for workshops of all sizes, including innovative designs that could be transported through standard doorways and installed with ease.
Our collaboration with Techsoft led to the development of fully enclosed machines for the education sector, combining safety, reliability and performance.
As demand grew, we brought our entire production process in-house, controlling every stage from machining and fabrication to wiring, finishing and assembly. That commitment to quality quickly made us one of the UK’s go-to names for precision CNC routers.
Growing beyond the UK
As the business expanded, so did our reach.
Our machines have been supplied across the UK and internationally, from Ireland to the USA, supporting a wide range of industries including engineering, defence, education and manufacturing.
We’ve continued to evolve our product range too, introducing new machine formats, scaling production, and developing our own CNC control systems to ensure performance and reliability.
Evolving with the industry
In recent years, we’ve expanded our offering to include a carefully selected range of imported CNC machines, built to our specifications and standards through trusted manufacturing partners.
This has allowed us to offer a broader product range while maintaining the quality, performance and visual finish that define the Exel CNC brand.
More recently, we’ve introduced fibre laser cutting and engraving systems, continuing our focus on innovation and helping customers stay ahead in a fast-moving industry.
